A Styled Holiday Shoot and the Heart Behind My Senior Crew

As a senior photographer serving the Minneapolis and South Metro area, I focus on creating senior picture experiences that feel meaningful, relaxed, and intentionally elevated from the old-school, one-size-fits-all photo experience.

This styled holiday shoot with my Senior Crew highlights how thoughtful planning, creative direction, and community can elevate the senior pictures experience beyond a single photo session. Featuring high school seniors from Rosemount, Farmington, Lakeville, Shakopee, and Mendota Heights, this shoot is one example of how the Senior Crew experience adds depth, connection, and creativity to senior year.

The Senior Crew allows me to connect with a smaller group of seniors on a deeper level throughout the year. For me, it’s a creative outlet and a meaningful way to build relationships, while also sharing the kind of work I love creating. For the seniors, it’s an opportunity to be part of something different — to build friendships, try new looks, and step into experiences they wouldn’t normally get during their senior year.
This holiday shoot is a great example of that balance.
For this session, we created three different holiday-inspired looks in one afternoon. We started with a cozy Christmas morning feel, moved into a dressed-up holiday look, and finished with a New Year’s Eve–inspired setup. Each vignette was thoughtfully planned and styled to feel relaxed and natural, not overly posed or forced. Attendance at additional shoots like this is always optional — I know how busy high school students are — but having the option is part of what makes the experience special.
Here are some images from our first vignette, the Christmas morning photo shoot
What I see time and time again is how these shoots create space for connection. Seniors from Rosemount, Farmington, Lakeville, Shakopee, and Mendota Heights come together, many meeting for the first time. By the end of the shoot, there’s laughter, comfort, and often new friendships forming. That sense of community is something both the seniors and their parents value, even if it’s hard to articulate at first.

From a creative standpoint, styled shoots like this allow me to experiment, push ideas, and keep my work fresh — which ultimately benefits every senior I photograph. From a marketing perspective, it’s a chance to share real moments and real connections, not just finished images. And for the seniors, it’s a chance to experience something memorable during an already meaningful year.
For this shoot, the girls changed out of the pajamas I provided and into their own festive holiday attire (most of the girls wore a previous year's homecoming dress)
This holiday shoot was just one example of how the Senior Crew adds depth to the senior experience. It’s not about doing more for the sake of more — it’s about creating intentional opportunities that feel worthwhile for everyone involved.
To make our set a little more New Year's Eve party ready we added more props: balloons, sparling lemonade, streamers, giant numbers oh and more music for dancing
The Class of 2027 Senior Crew search will be officially begin January 12, 2026, and I’m looking forward to sharing more about it soon.
